This was the 2nd time George Haig reached the final of the 2018 Sussex Count U11 Closed Championships. Last year he narrowly missed out losing 3-2 after having a match point.   This year George entered both the U13 and U11 events.   This did mean, however, he played 6 matches, the best 5 games format, in a single day.   He won the plate in the U13 after losing to the No1 seed in the 1st round and then winning his remaining 2 matches 3-0.   His last match of the day was the U11 final against Zach Greengrass.   George got off to a slow start, losing the first 2 games, but he fought back to win 3.2.

George is delighted and extremely proud to add his name to the trophy.  Past winners include Ollie Pett (now a Chichester PSL player), Jonah Bryant (arguably the best U13 junior in the world after recently winning the British Junior Open) and Chichester’s own Stephen Wykes.   George is now ranked in the top 10 in England U11 (currently No.9 in the September rankings).
