Boys’ 14U County Tour Tournament

Boys’ 14U County Tour Tournament

On a very snowy Sunday 20th January 2013, Chichester Racquets & Fitness Club hosted a 14U County Tour grade 5 tennis tournament; the latest tennis tournament to be staged at the Club in the current winter competition season.   This boys’ singles tournament was held in the Club’s dome, which houses 3 indoor courts, and was run using a compass draw format of 8 players.   Each match consisted of the best of 3 short sets (to 4 games), with a match tie-break (to 10 points) as the deciding set.

Third place and a bronze medal went to Timothy May from Surrey, who beat Sam Ellison, formerly of Chichester Racquets & Fitness Club, 4-1, 4-2.   Julian Standish, also of Chichester Racquets & Fitness Club was runner up and collected the silver medal.   The Gold medal went to Alex Targett from Pevensey, in East Sussex, after he defeated Julian 4-2, 4-1 in a high quality final.

Tournament Organiser, and recently crowned ‘Tennis Sussex Referee of the year 2012’, Peter Cook, said, “The staff at the Club worked very hard to keep the facilities open this weekend after the extreme weather we’ve had.   The dome looked more like an igloo from the outside, with temperatures inside below freezing, so credit must also go to the players who didn’t complain and still produced some exciting tennis today.”
