Chichester’s Portsmouth League Teams Triumph this Summer!

At the recently held awards ceremony for the Portsmouth & District LTA, Chichester Racquets & Fitness Club received numerous awards and accolades.

Ladies’ 2 won Div.4; Ladies’ Masters Runners-up Div.1; Mixed Masters won Div.1 and Men’s 1 won Div.3.

Also, the Club was honoured to receive 2 awards for Sportmanship.

The Colin Manvell Memorial Sportsmanship Trophies

The main award is given to the Club achieving the highest ranking over all three main divisions.  The votes are cast by each team captain from every participating league team in the P&D LTA Leagues.  In this category the Club was awarded a runner-up certificate.  Chichester was also awarded the winner’s shield for the Men’s Divisions.

In assessing Sportsmanship, the P&D LTA look across the whole range of league activities, including for instance:

  • Promptness in confirming matches

  • Helpfulness in re-arranging matches, where necessary

  • Punctuality when starting matches

  • Spirit in which the match was played [including fairness in line calling]

  • Friendliness over lunch/tea.

Chichester Men’s 1 played their first match, in Div.3 of the Winter Leagues 2019, last weekend. The team will try to emulate its summer success and is resolute in its aim to gain promotion at the end of this season.  Mat Worden, Jimmy Marks, Harry Boyd and Maxwell Gunning began their quest with a 3.1. win against Alverstoke, at home.
